Job Description


This role is primarily responsible for maintaining on premise Exchange 2010 and Active Directory environments. Exchange system maintenance and upgrades, monitoring of mail databases and load balancing/failover, and preparing environment for Office 365 migration. Active Directory management and maintenance, database overhaul and clean-up for efficiency including GPO. Strong skills in Microsoft Active Directory stack.

This role will also be responsible for provisioning physical systems, managing host and virtual guest environments, installing and configuring Windows based Operating Systems, as well as monitoring and maintaining their performance. It will also define, configure, and maintain automation processes through tools such as Chef, Puppet, Space Walk, and other similar tool kits.


  • Maintain primary responsibility for the diagnosis and resolution of problems, within a timely manner and to an enterprise standard
  • Maintain and administer deployment standards for OS builds, updates, and patch management
  • Installs new software releases and system upgrades, evaluates and installs patches, and resolves software related problems
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware, software, or other system problems, and replace defective hardware components when necessary
  • Perform routine maintenance as necessary on servers
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of related systems
  • Provide technical support, training and documentation to the Information Technology team and business groups/departments
  • Respond to requests to assist in problem resolution, including after-hours support needs
  • Utilize ticketing system to track defects and requested enhancements
  • Use Change Management processes to develop and deploy code and/or functionality to the production environment
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement hardware and software replacements or upgrades
  • Participate in scheduled monthly maintenance windows
  • Proactively highlight and address potential problems and investigate solutions
  • To participate in 24/7/365 on call monitoring of production systems and occasionally work evenings and weekends to facilitate solutions when necessary, e.g., where downtime or deadlines demand
  • To identify areas for improvement with a view to maintaining and enhancing the reliability, stability, integrity and security of the IT systems
  • To document solutions and to ensure others are informed of changes and developments
  • To ‘own’ problems and see them through to completion and keep parties involved informed at all stages
  • To attend liaison meetings as required to share information regarding IT changes and developments and to gather information about future needs of the projects

Required skillset

  • 7-10 years industry experience
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Exchange, both on premise and Office 365
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory Stack and GPO
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Operating Systems including Server 2012, 2016, and Windows 10
  • In depth and comprehensive working knowledge of ESXi/vCenter/vSphere
  • Shell scripting to automate tools as well as day-to-day tasks

Knowledge of the following is preferred

  • Working knowledge of hardware regarding storage, hardware, connectivity – Dell Preferred
  • Working knowledge of SAN Architecture
  • Splunk
  • Chef
  • Datacore (software defined storage) knowledge is a plus.
