Job Description

Position Overview:

The Senior Accountant, Payroll Accounting serves a critical role in ensuring the accurate and timely preparation and recording of payroll accounting transactions for this U.S. based international publicly traded energy company and its subsidiaries subject to external and U.S. GAAP reporting requirements. Primary responsibilities include preparing shared-based compensation accounting, integration of ADP payroll accounting and processing payroll cost allocation. Other responsibilities include accounting research and support of the accounting close process. This role will interact closely with various departments including Human Resources, Legal and Tax.

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP
  • Experience with payroll and benefit accounting
  • Experience with share-based compensation accounting
  • Experience with data processing systems in the accounting and reporting environment
  • Knowledge of the energy industry preferred

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Prepare share-based compensation accounting and reporting records and reconciliation of all share-based compensation transactions under U.S. GAAP, including support for footnote disclosures for inclusion in the Company’s financial statement filings
  • Prepare various reports and schedules related to share-based compensation accounting for monthly and quarterly internal and external reporting requirements
  • As necessary, perform initial U.S. GAAP research on plan changes and new accounting and reporting guidance related to share-based compensation, and participate in preparation of presentations and implementation planning
  • Assist with the annual budgeting for share-based compensation and monitor budget to actual variances
  • Prepare and record monthly ADP payroll, analyze payroll expenses and determine and record payroll allocation
  • Prepare assigned balance sheet reconciliations
  • Perform ad hoc reporting and analysis and investigate issues requiring explanations and interpretation
  • Ensure timely and complete delivery of any documentation required to support external and internal audits and reporting
  • Additional assignments as assigned by the Manager of Payroll Accounting
  • Monitor, participate in and enhance formal processes for internal controls surrounding payroll reporting process to ensure compliance with Sarbanes Oxley Act requirements
  • Coordinate and effectively communicate accounting matters with various departments throughout the organization

QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS):

  • Education and Certifications:  A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting is required. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or actively pursuing a CPA license is required for this role.  
  • Experience:  Five to six years of applicable experience, preferably within the energy industry.
