Job Description


A Houston based Credit Union is seeking a Programmer for a direct hire role.  


To create, maintain, modify and test changes to existing software programs and products.

To understand the activities of the various credit union functions and the core processing system in order to design, develop and modify reports and programming to meet the needs of the organization. (80%)

To assist with System Administrators and IT Help Desk tickets in the resolution of issues. (20%)

To maintain a thorough knowledge of the core banking system (Symitar/Episys) and it's underlying data structures.

To understand other credit union departments duties, information systems, and underlying data used by them in order to successfully design and develop procedures, ad-hoc and regularly scheduled reports and extracts for them as needed.

Work with employees to develop and write new programs, as well as maintain and modify existing programs, as assigned, ensuring testing is thorough and complete prior to submitting to be placed in production.

To independently resolve complex production and program errors/problems in assigned applications across multiple hardware platforms, software packages, and programming languages.

To continuously build skill set by learning new languages, techniques and systems.

To assist with Help Desk Tickets and calls when necessary due to manpower shortages or his/her expertise is required to help resolve an issue.

To assist with trouble calls, including some hardware and software installation, at remote locations as necessary.

To assist the System Network Administrators when necessary.

To maintain an effective and professional working relationships with all other credit union employees and maintain a spirit of cooperation with other members of the IT team to resolve problems and assist end-users.

To maintain a professional work environment and businesslike appearance.

To maintain a dependable record of attendance and timeliness.


Three (3) years to five years of similar or related experience.

 Equivalent to a college degree (BS or BA in a relevant field).

Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential elements of the job. Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization for purposes of giving or obtaining information, building relationships, or soliciting cooperation.

Advanced knowledge of programming languages. Must have good communication skills.
