Job Description

Our client is a growing, Houston based, privately held chemical company, and they are looking for a highly skilled Accountant to perform a variety of accounting and financial activities. The candidate would ideally have prior experience working in a plant environment and be a hands on finance leader.  Key responsibilities range from processing business transactions (i.e. – purchasing, cash receipts, cash disbursements activities) to maintaining accurate general ledgers of business activities and financial results.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Maintain accurate general ledger of plant accounting activities including:
    • report / reconcile / analyze inventory activity throughout the month
    • plant cost center reporting and analysis
    • capital spending reporting
    • manage daily A/P processing and cash application activities
    • manage weekly A/P disbursement process
    • manage annual audit, including physical inventory taking coordination
    • coordinate plant requirements with respect to the budget and forecast processes
    • Supervise Credit and Collections staff and monitor Accounts Receivable

  • Manage monthly closing activities including:
    • Ensuring accurate subledgers-Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Inventory, Fixed Assets, etc.
    • Ensure proper accruals and monthly recurring entries are posted.
    • Reconcile all accounts post month end close.
    • Manage Sales & Product profitability reporting.

  • Support Plant Manager and VP Operations
    • maintain, improve and establish new plant performance metrics (e.g. PPV, Yield, Production vs Plan, Efficiency, etc.).
    • report departmental expenses and performance vs budget.
    • provide visibility into plant efficiencies and improvements opportunities.
    • review and analyze plant financial results and advise plant management with regards to plant performance.

  • Support and Manage the Plant Budgeting and Forecasting process
    • work with the sales and business development to forecast volume.
    • work with operations to project production capacity and related cost based on projected volumes.

  • work with plant management to track capital spend projects and forecast capital needs.

  • Maintain and establish appropriate Internal Controls
    • Work with the CFO to maintain and establish policy and procedures.
    • Ensure plant compliance with all company policies.

  • Support CFO with Plant Analytics and Plant Reporting
    • Provide routine financial reporting and analytics.
    • Support ad-hoc requests as needed.

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Accounting/Finance Degree
  • 5+ years experience, prior chemical industry / manufacturing / cost accounting experience a plus
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to details
  • Good knowledge of US GAAP, internal controls
  • Strong computer skills - proficient in excel, word, access database, power point; comfortable working with other systems (SAGE 100 experience a plus)
  • Hands-on experience with spreadsheets and financial reports
  • Good communication skills, ability to interact effectively with other departments
