Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Lead Specialist, Community Affairs will be a key contributor to the multi-discipline Philanthropy & Events team.  The Lead Specialist will independently guide the company’s local community relations, stakeholder engagement and public outreach in South Texas with limited guidance from Manager.

This role be based out of our Corpus Christi plant and is eligible for relocation assistance.  

KNOWLEDGE:

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with corporate philanthropic methodology and experience in public forums as company representative.  They will exhibit in-depth knowledge of budgeting, office protocol, document control and handling procedures and typical computer document management applications are required.  This position has a broad understanding of the company’s organization, functions, roles and responsibilities. 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Specific duties will include, but may not be limited to, the following:

  • Recommend solutions to mitigate social risks identified by state and local government affairs team.
  • Work collaboratively with communications, local/state government, leadership, and project teams to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes and meet business objectives.
  • Drive employee morale and retention by enhancing current and developing new programs.
  • Create annual budgets at project level for all local community giving.
  • Forecast, manage and work within budget limitations.
  • Act as cultural change agent to effectively create and communicate messaging around company giving philosophy to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain repository of community giving requests and status.
  • Filter inbound requests through strategic internal giving framework prior to presentation to Corpus Christi Community Investment Council (CIC) for consideration.
  • Effectively manage existing and develop new relationships with internal and external stakeholders regarding community giving requests when communicating approvals, declines, pending, and re-direction to matching gifts program as appropriate.
  • Participate at site Leadership meetings and present at Corpus All Hands Team meetings.
  • Build strong relationships with the company’s key internal stakeholders, working proactively to keep them well-informed and to develop creative solutions to business objectives.
  • Prepare written and verbal monthly reporting of community giving commitments with identification of tie to business objectives, summarized by giving type, geographical location, connection to key stakeholders,  and volunteer hours.
  • Conduct and report out post community giving spend analytics to ensure effective and efficient utilization of funds and alignment with strategic initiatives. Identify gaps and propose solutions.
  • Write and publish updates to the Corpus Christi Community giving activities for the company's intranet. Act as back up for company-wide philanthropy postings as needed on the HUB.
  • Collaborate with Communications Team to establish communications plan for internal and external stakeholders, along with leveraging media when appropriate.
  •  Interface with employees and promote philanthropy programs, benefits and policies through training sessions and individually as needed.
  • Accountable for local community giving activities, including building project plan, volunteer recruitment, program management during the event and efficient spend. Show ability to adapt to unexpected occurrences and encounters.
  • Conduct Corpus Christi CIC meetings to drive community giving recommendations and includes drafting meeting notes, action items and recaps. Demonstrate ability to manage expectations and resolve conflicts of interest.
  • Responsible for vendor set up and invoice processing.
  • Ability to strategically identify local opportunities for community investment and outreach to meet business objectives.
  • Monitor and report on local competitor community giving activity and trends for relevance to the company and associated analytics to inform community giving decisions.
  • Be the “eyes and ears” on the ground in the local community, proactively raising community concerns in a timely fashion.
  • Represent the company at public functions as needed.
  • Act as a spokesperson at local community giving events.
  • Serve as liaison to internal and external stakeholders regarding events, corporate philanthropy and general community outreach.
  • Work with Events Team for all branding related items for community investment events, such as advertisements, invitations and other printed materials, while utilizing preferred collateral vendor.
  • Serve as Dept representative on Corpus Christi Cultural Champions Committee.
  • Assist with Corporate Community giving events, as needed.
  • Back up for Manager in directing department deliverables as needed.
  • Support other projects, as needed.
  • Duties will include evening and weekend events.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS):

  • Bachelor degree required with a minimum of 8 years’ experience in public affairs, communications, community relations, local government or relevant experience required.
  • Knowledge and/or familiarity with regional community (Corpus Christi/South Texas).
  • Local ties to community network preferred.
  • Experience with project management and successfully balancing multiple complex projects at one time.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong understanding of the business and political climate and issues in the areas where the company operates.
