Our downstream energy client is currently seeking a Senior/Lead Accountant for their corporate office located in Houston, TX. 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Learn and develop Commercial and Accounting business expertise to facilitate understanding of downstream processes and controls.
  • Learn and understand data in the transactional system to effectively evaluate accounting results.
  • Perform monthly validation and upload of product costing pool WACOGS for all downstream products and locations.
  • Provide training and assistance to field offices to enhance understanding of WACOG methodology and Inventory Valuation tools.   
  • Prepare supplemental accounting entries as needed to assure accuracy of segment and sub-segment results. Utilize reports and queries to confirm accuracy and completeness of segment results. 
  • Provide detailed report of actual results for Exports and Marketing to facilitate comparison of actual results to Flash.
  • Prepare monthly intercompany account reconciliation. Analyze variances and coordinate resolution of discrepancies. 
  • Participate in annual process to analyze and update deadstock balances. Prepare data necessary to record accounting adjustments to deadstock.  
  • Collaborate with team members, Technical Accounting, and Commercial regarding set-up of new contracts/provisions in the transactional system.
  • Use knowledge and expertise to collaborate and provide guidance to other team members for key account and inventory reconciliations.  
  • Prepare key inventory annual reports: Ad valorem, Risk.
  • Provide support and analysis for quarterly reporting of downstream results. Participate in MD&A and Disclosure Review meeting with the Executive team.   
  • Use knowledge and expertise to act as a sounding board with stakeholders to vet ideas and recommend solutions. 
  • Prepare ad hoc reports as necessary.
  • To be effective, this position requires interacting with a variety of functional areas.
  • Lead or serve as a key participant in projects.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is required

QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS):

Education & License:  

  • Accounting Degree
  • Excellent verbal and written communication with ability to adjust style depending on audience
  • Ability to work with diverse people across functions to achieve desired outcomes
  • Ability to mediate/lead discussions or meetings

Experience:  

  • Minimum of 5-6 yrs. accounting experience 

Skills/Competencies: 

  • Interpersonal communication skills are required in order to interface with all affected teams, personnel, and vendors
  • An organized and detail-oriented self-starter with a strong work ethic
  • Ability to work self-sufficiently given direction and resources
  • Well-grounded, preferring to work in a collegial and team environment
  • Ability to think critically, solve problems independently and exercise excellent judgment and common sense
  • Intermediate computer skills (Proficiency in MS Office Suite to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
