Job Description

SUMMARY: : A large Houston Healthcare system is seeking an experienced Data Modeler to join their team for a 5 month project with the strong potential to be extended.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Participates in agile software development team settings to identify and scope enterprise domains including transactional, dimensional and object models, vocabularies and ontology based on the business problem and customer needs.
  • Analyzes requirements to develop initial design concept and technical approach driving to detailed physical solutions and distributed builds. 
  • Converts requirements into comprehensive detailed design specifications. 
    Creates and maintains business process diagrams using BPMN and BPEL; models and contents for metadata repositories, vocabularies or other metadata driven products using metadata languages and tools. 
  • Manage metadata repository content life cycle. 
  • Participates in the creation of Information Architecture Guidelines. 
  • Apply the principles and methods of data modeling to identify and define the scope and content of information domains of patient care, clinical operations, and research.
  •  Formulate transactional, normalized, dimensional, and/or object-oriented data models of these domains as needed to meet customer needs and solve defined business problems.
  • These data models shall encompass master data management, including the use of standardized vocabularies, code sets, and ontologies, where appropriate.
  • Solution Development and Support Convert customer needs, requirements, and data models into comprehensive detailed design specifications, following established departmental processes and standards, including standardized documentation.
  • Use established standards, processes, and tools to manage business process diagrams, data models, business rules, and all other metadata for ongoing development and support.
  • Manage the life cycle of the metadata repository content.
  • Participate in the creation of Information Architecture Guidelines:
    • Create and maintain formal standards, policies, and processes to integrate information architecture considerations and impact assessments of the data management life cycle into the broader set of IS program and project management practices.
  • Participate in architectural reviews of proposed technical designs for enterprise software releases to maintain an accurate view of current and future data environments. Create, maintain, follow, and promote formal data modeling and metadata standards, as well as related best practices, among co-workers and throughout the Division of Information Services.
  • May conduct reviews of other data modelers’ work to ensure standards and methods are followed consistently and to make recommendations when appropriate.

Perform specific tasks or projects at the discretion and direction of CAI’s director, CAI’s managers, and project managers.

REQUIREMENTS: 

Must Have:

  • Bachelors Degree (May substitute require education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one to one basis or completed years of college on a one to one basis)
  • Four years modeling experience plus three years’ experience with Software Development Lifecycle methodologies.
  • Relational and dimensional modeling experience
  • Data Warehouse and data mart experience

Preferred:

  • Master's degree related field
  • Big data modeling (e.g. Graph database modeling, Document database modeling, Key-Value Pair modeling)
  • Data Vault modeling
  • Strong business analysis skills
