SUMMARY:

Large West Houston based company seeks high level Assistant Controller.  Great compensation, benefits, flexibility and stock options

DESCRIPTION:

Our well established and respected Houston based client is headquartered in West Houston.  This company values the accounting leadership and this role is a mission critical position at a high leadership level in our client's organization chart.  This role will supervise a team of supervisors and a large indirect team.  This role will be a key leader and will be responsible for overall accounting and timely reporting for this privately held organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for overall accounting and timely closing of the Company’s monthly, quarterly and annual books and records
  • Ensure the Company’s books and records are prepared and maintained in accordance with GAAP
  • Exhibit and deliver extensive expertise and technical knowledge in GAAP and ICFR
  • Establish, review, evaluate, implement and ensure execution and enforcement of accounting policies, procedures and internal controls in accordance with GAAP and ICFR
  • Directly supervise General Ledger, Accounts Payable and Payroll Teams
  • Build strong and effective working relationships with peers, team and others throughout the organization
  • Partner in, and directly lead where applicable, implementation of accounting systems and integration of other systems
  • Provide leadership and management of system application administration and security, including ongoing maintenance, upgrades, testing, reconciliations and appropriate internal controls
  • Partner with Director of External Reporting to ensure timely completion and communication in connection with the activities of external auditors as it relates to quarterly reviews, annual and statutory audits
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational seminars, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks and participating in professional societies
  • Responsible for recruiting, hiring, development, reviewing, education and termination of assigned staff and maintaining related personnel files
  • Responsible for recommending and communicating goals and objectives of the department and ensuring completion of those goals and objectives timely, accurately and completely
  • Develop a thorough understanding of company policies, procedures and safety rules
  • Maintain confidentiality of information

EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or relevant field of study
  • Active CPA license in the United States
  • 12+ years of accounting experience
  • 3+ years with a “Big 4” public accounting firm
  • Strong systems knowledge (PeopleSoft or Oracle) with direct experience with implementations and design
  • Extensive US GAAP and Industry experience, with hands-on experience and a “roll up the sleeves” mentality and approach
  • Experience with embedding internal controls over financial reporting throughout the organization
  • Experience with technical accounting writing, including memos, policies, procedures and preparing related presentations

  • Ability to prioritize workloads and meet multiple deadlines simultaneously in a fast paced, frequently changing environment
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills to interface effectively with individuals at various levels
  • Works well under pressure while consistently meeting time-sensitive deadlines
  • Analytical with strong problem-solving abilities and creative resolution skills
  • Skilled at performing complicated tasks through planning and setting goals that utilize extensive experience, judgment, and research
  • Independent worker, yet effectively contributes to a team environment and balances “hands-on/hands-off” approaches
