Job Description

SUMMARY:  A Houston Headquartered Oil and Gas services and supply company is seeking an experienced IT expert, leader, and manager who can be in the trenches  providing hands on guidance, a strong operational understanding of how IT can support the business, and an ability to provide oversight and direction of IT to business leaders focused on shared services and economies of scale.   

RESPONSIBILITIES:

You will join a dynamic management team and help shape and execute the strategic vision moving the organization into a new era.  You will own the development and support, infrastructure, security, data analytics and business intelligence, and technical services delivery.

Service Management & Operations:
• Manage all IT system changes in a controlled manner, including standard changes and emergency
maintenance relating to business processes, applications, and infrastructure and mitigate the risk
of negatively impacting the stability of the business environment.
• Provide timely and effective response to user requests and effective and efficient resolution of all
business impacting incidents.
• Plan, direct, and coordinate the lifecycle management of computer and network systems
associate with the offices and data centers to ensure the stable operation of the organization’s IT
assets.

Infrastructure Management/Architecture:
• Balance current and future needs for availability, performance, and capacity of IT systems and
infrastructure through the forecast of future performance and capacity requirements based on
the Business and IT strategies.
• Manage the organization’s application and infrastructure lifecycle by determining each asset’s
ability to provide value to the organization relative to its cost. Develop and maintain the IT
roadmap, including when to grow, retire or replace, repurpose or sustain.

Security & Risk Management:
• Define, operate, and monitor processes and systems for data and information security
management to ensure the impact and occurrence of information security incidents are within
the business’ risk appetite levels.
• Ensure IT processes and IT-supported business processes are compliant with laws, regulations,
and contractual requirements.
• Develop and manage the overall disaster recovery plan; ensure the continual functioning of
mission-critical operations.


Data & Business Intelligence:
• Develop a set of capabilities, including people, processes, and technology, to enable the
transformation of raw data into meaningful and useful information for the purpose of business
analysis.
• Management of organizational databases to ensure users and applications have access to the
right data at the right time for the right reasons and with optimal performance.

Project Portfolio Management:
• Manage all IT programs and projects from the portfolio in alignment with the business strategy.
Initiate, plan, control, and execute programs and projects to ensure the business realizes project
benefits while experiencing minimal delays or cost overruns.
• Create a coherent strategy to maximize the sum of values projects will deliver as a whole – as a
project portfolio, rather than a collection of individual projects.

Strategy & Leadership:
• Build strong relationships with business groups and their leaders across the enterprise, and
develop a detailed understanding of their issues, challenges and opportunities.
• Ensure transparency and collaboration between the IT organization and its business partners.
• Align strategic IT plans with business objectives and clearly communicate the IT objectives and
associated accountabilities; with options identified, prioritized, justified, and integrated with the
business plans.
• Maintain an awareness of information technology and related service trends, identify innovation
opportunities, and plan and clearly communicate how innovation will serve business needs.
 

People & Resource Management:
• Manage the IT function, developing resources to maximize their potential. Build an effective and
cohesive team.
• Manage the IT-related financial activities and prioritize spending using formal budgeting practices.
Provide transparency and accountability of the cost and business value of IT solutions and
services.
• Manage the relationship between external service providers and IT to ensure that the suppliers
meet organizational needs with contracts and SLAs optimized for strategic value.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's or master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Distribution Industry experience is desired. Energy industry experience is a plus
  • Fifteen or more years of experience in IT including a minimum of 5 years in a leadership position.  (Bonus if the person has worked in operations and IT in the distribution industry)
  • Experience with ERP (Infor SX.e), CRM (PowerLink), eCommerce (Magento), & Business
    Intelligence/Analytics (OneStream) preferred/required.  (ERP experience with a small to midsize package preferred such as P21 or N4 or the like over a large ERP (i.e. SAP or Oracle)
  • Able to work collaboratively with diverse leaders, communicate an IT vision and strategy across
    all levels of the organization, and build consensus around key initiatives and projects.
  • Experience in a federated structure with matrixed leadership responsibilities.
  • Budget Management experience.  P&L leadership experience a bonus
  • Possesses exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written; able to
    articulate ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit, hire and motivate a high performing IT team that values
    transparency and accountability.
  • Possesses exceptional business acumen, analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent negotiating skills with internal customers and external service providers.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity; can handle the unexpected with flexibility.
  • A team player who favors collaborative approaches when working with internal and external
    partners.
  • Proven ability to build trust with others through a commitment to the highest ethical and
    professional standards.
  • A high energy executive; tenacious and passionate about reaching the goal, while keeping ego in
    check.
  • Experience in a VP, Director, or Manager of IT or equivalent position is strongly preferred/required.
  • Private Equity backed business experience a plus.
