SUMMARY:

Growing, south/central company in Houston seeks experienced Tax Director for a hands on role

DESCRIPTION:

This is a role that is newly created/in-sourced into this organization.  This is a really exciting time to be part of this company and in a role that will help establish policies, procedures and create new efficiencies. This company needs someone who is self directed, responsible and very hands on.  This role could be hired as a Manager as well, and is going to be a highly visible role in the organization, working with top leadership and C-suite professionals as well as external CPA firms and other external parties.  Thus, a polished, professional communication style is needed to manage this department.

Specifically, this role is responsible for various duties within the Tax department, including comprehensive, strategic tax planning and oversight of federal and state compliance for multiple Entities; preparation of federal and state tax returns for the Entities and preparation of the work papers supporting the returns; researching and analyzing tax issues; and monitoring compliance with federal and state tax law changes as they pertain to the Entities. 
 
 ? Review and/or prepare federal tax returns including limited partnership, limited liability company, S-corporation and not-for-profit returns, multistate tax returns, Texas margin tax returns, property tax and all related items filed annually in addition to returns such as tax estimates, extensions and various state filing fees. 
 
? In connection with tax returns, prepare work papers supporting the conversion of financial records from GAAP to tax basis records generally required for Entities.

? Manage the monthly sales tax return process by coordinating with the Accounting Manager to analyze taxability of transactions and prepare returns.

? Manage sales tax audits.  Work with Accounting teammates to gather required information, analyze and resolve audit issues.

? Research various tax issues as they arise throughout the year.  

? Maintain and monitor a due date list for all tax filings and various other deadlines.

? Utilize GoSystem tax return software and Great Plains accounting software in completion of routine duties.

? Coordinate and monitor federal and state tax audits.

? Monitor and evaluate federal and state tax law changes as they pertain to Entities.

? Interact with Accounting department and internal/external personnel as may be required.

? Perform various other or additional duties that may be assigned from time to time by the Sr. Vice President and Chief Financial Officer.  

? Position requires routine face-to-face personal interaction with other personnel; therefore, job responsibilities must be physically performed in the Houston offices and not in a telecommuting manner. 

REQUIREMENTS:

? Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from a four-year accredited college or university required.

? Master’s degree in Accounting preferred.  

? Minimum of five (5) years related experience in tax accounting required.

 ? Certified Public Accountant license (“CPA”) required. 

? Strong analytical and management skills with ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.

? Experience with tax preparation software such as GoSystem required.

? Proficiency in data analysis and problem-solving.  

? Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office software applications.  

? Effective verbal and written communication skills.

? Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to develop solid working relationships across the organization.

? Excellent attention to detail and an ability to produce high-quality, accurate work within designated deadlines.  

? Ability to maintain confidential and/or proprietary information.

? Ability and internal drive to demonstrate a positive, winning attitude and a strong work ethic in the performance of all job responsibilities.
